How to change the Tar skin
How to change the Tar skin
The skin must be old, soft and clean. One side of the skin is more rough than the other side. The soft side should be toward the bowl and the rough side toward to out of the instrument. The bottom of the skin is thicker than upside and is used for the bowl next to the string holder and the other part for the upside of the Tar (Nagharreh). Firstly, remove the damaged skin from tar body by rubbing a wet napkin on about the bowl. Cut up the skin based on the bowl shape and size. You had better consider the size a little more to let the skin stick to the body completely (you can use of paper or a cardboard as a model).

Now, make the glue by mixing the glue powder into the water.

After that Put the skin into a little of water and then on a textile or newspaper to let it get dried (the textile is suggested).

Rub the glue all about the outfall of the bowl. This part should be cleaned before.

Widen the rather dried skin and put it on the bowl (the rough side must be toward out), then try to eliminate the plica of the skin by using of a knife or something like this to push and stick about outfall of the bowl.

In a hot weather you had better press the place of bridge a little by your 3 fingers, but it is not required in the winter. At this time you can replace the strings in the holder and bridge, then put the bridge in specific place and replace it's string in the holder. Be noted that the head of bridge should be a little toward to the holder.

You can fix the bridge in the holder by using a little of wax.

You can cut the extra skin when the skin is dried completely.

You had better tune the instrument when the skin is dried completely.
